Nutricia Neocate E028 Splash

NEW! As of September 2017, E028 Splash is now Neocate Splash! Learn more at www.neocate.com/splash

If you’re used to preparing powdered Neocate formula, you might be wondering if there is an easier way. It’s tough enough getting yourself and/or your family dressed in the morning, much less having to measure out and prepare powdered formula for daycare or school or work. Fortunately another option is E028 Splash!

What is E028 Splash?

E028 Splash, or just “Splash” for short, is part of the Neocate line of hypoallergenic formulas. The “E028” is a unique product code that stuck! The "E" stood for "elemental" and the "28" represents the 28 essential vitamins and minerals added. Splash is technically a “medical food,” which falls somewhere in the middle of a food, a drug, and a supplement. Orange-Pineapple Splash has been available in the US since 1995, and in 2006 we introduced 2 new flavors: Tropical Fruit and Grape.

Splash, just like Neocate Junior, was designed for individuals over a year old and contains some of all of the nutrients growing bodies need, like carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Splash is used by children, teens, and adults. Splash is unique because the protein source is free amino acids, which are safe for kids with food allergies and other medical needs that require an elemental diet. It’s also gluten-free and casein-free.

What makes Splash so great?

The number one reason families love Splash is because it’s so convenient. Splash is the only ready-to-feed, hypoallergenic, amino acid-based formula there is! It goes into a backpack, purse or briefcase just as easily as any other drink box. No more measuring powder, measuring water, and shaking! Not only is this convenient for daycare, day trips, work or school, but it also takes the guesswork out of the equation for babysitters, family, and other parents if you have a child on Neocate that visits on a play date.

Children love Splash for a number of reasons. Severe allergies may mean they need a special formula, but who says it has to LOOK like a special formula? Not us! Splash is packaged to look like other juice drinks, so allergic kids don’t have to feel “different” from everyone else. For some, the novelty of getting to drink their formula through a straw instead of from a cup can make a world of difference. And don’t tell your little one that we said this, but the drink box keeps the distinct smell of formula wrapped up. And to top it all off, Splash comes in 3 great flavors, which can help anyone stick to an elemental diet by adding variety.

Splash has been a blessing for so many families that it has even appeared in a few news stories: here’s a video of Splash helping Matthew Bernard!

Splash has saved my son’s life.  It is his primary source of nutrition.  He has EOE and 95% of his nutrition is from Splash.  I cannot understand why you would change something that so many children depend on to live.  Honestly, I am terrified.  What if he won’t drink it?  What if his body can’t tolerate it?  Why not make an alternative available, Splash 2, and leave our Splash alone.  Please?  How is this worth the risk?

As we announced in early 2013, we are planning an upgrade of our Neocate E028 Splash products. However, due to a delay with one of our suppliers, we have recently made the decision to postpone the upgrade of Neocate E028 Splash.  As of now, we are not planning on making any changes to this product, nor are there plans for discontinuation at this time.

At Nutricia North America, we work hard to make sure that your child receives the best possible nutritional support based on the latest scientific and medical knowledge. At this time we have inventory of all flavors of Neocate E028 Splash to meet your needs and the needs of our customers moving forward.

When we plan to upgrade this product in the future, we will be sure to make an announcement. We understand the sensitivity of the families who rely on our products and are committed to ensuring all our customers have access to our products.

how can I get a sampleofthe splash for my daughter. Thanks

  • 2014-11-03 | Rob McCandlish, RDN

    Hi Cindy,

Usually the best way to try Neocate is to check with your daughter’s healthcare team. Many doctor’s offices have samples of Neocate, and if not they can call us for samples. That way you don’t have to buy it to try it. For E028 Splash, we offer a sample kit with 1 of each flavor that the office could request for you.

Many pharmacies don’t carry Neocate, but can special order it within 24 hours. For E028 Splash, they usually can only order by the case of 27. You can check our pharmacy finder to see if we’ve heard of locations near you that might have Neocate in stock, and give them a call:

    Best of luck,
    Rob

I have a 19 year old son who has multiple overwhelming food allergies.  What do you recommend for him as he does an elimination diet?  I’m concerned because he cannot have much meat, and no dairy.

  • 2015-02-19 | Rob McCandlish, RDN

    Hi Anna,
That’s a great question! Unfortunately we aren’t able to offer medical advice. The best thing to do would be to check with his healthcare team. I’d suggest seeing if his healthcare team will refer him to a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN or RD) who has experience working with patients with food allergies. RDNs are instrumental for folks with multiple food allergies in ensuring that there aren’t any nutritional shortfalls when foods are eliminated. For example, meats and animal products are key sources of major nutrients like protein, calcium, and several vitamins. For some individuals the RDN can identify replacement foods that are good sources of those nutrients, and for other individuals they might suggest supplementing with a few daily servings of a formula like one of the Neocate products.
      Best of luck!

    Hello,

I was interested in obtaining samples of your Neocate Splash drink.  I am a pediatric OT and work with children who are picky eaters or have difficulty with PO intake.  I would like some samples to offer my families as an alternative to Pediasure, Boost or other “milk”  based nutritional drinks.  Before I recommend families go out and purchase a case, and to be sure the child likes the flavor, it would be nice to try it in treatment.

Thank You so much for your consideration!

What exactly is in splash it doesn’t say on the boxes and why does it cause diarrhea very important

  • 2017-09-14 | Nutrition Specialist

    Hello Cathy.
We are excited that an upgraded version of Neocate E028 Splash is available as of September 2017! You can visit http://www.neocate.com/splash to learn more about Neocate Splash.
The full nutrition profile and list of ingredients can be found on the outer case box for Neocate Splash.  You can also find a list of ingredients for all 4 options of Neocate Splash and the nutrition profile details here:  https://www.neocate.com/shop/product/47/neocate-splash
You mentioned diarrhea. Neocate Splash should not cause diarrhea, although for some children the healthcare team may recommend a gradual transition, since changes in formula can take time to adjust to. Here at Nutricia, we take the safety and quality of our products very seriously. If your little one is experiencing diarrhea, please reach out to our Nutrition Services team so we can discuss this with you further at (800) 365-7354, option #2. We are available to assist you Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Eastern time.
        We hope this helps!
    Best,
    Kristin

Hi! Is there a difference between Neocate E028 Splash (sold in the US) and Elemental 028 Extra (sold in Australia and New Zealand)? If there is, which one is the richer in nutrients?
    Regards
    Jordan

  • 2017-10-31 | Nutrition Specialist

    Hi Jordan,
Great question! There are some similarities and differences between Neocate Splash and Elemental 028 Extra. I’ll do my best to lay those out for you. The two products are made in the same location, come in similar packaging, and the flavors for Elemental 028 Extra Liquid are also available in Neocate Splash (“Summer Fruits” is the same as Grape).
In terms of nutrients, each Neocate Splash drink box is higher in calories and most vitamins and minerals. To answer your question, it would be the one that’s “richer” in most, but not all, nutrients. Most of the differences in nutrients would not be clinically significant or meaningful, with the calories being the exception. Some of the higher nutrient levels in Neocate Splash could add up for patients who use the product as a sole or primary source of nutrition.
        I hope this helps!
    Rob
