Directions for Preparation and Use:
USE ONLY UNDER MEDICAL SUPERVISION. Your baby's health depends on carefully following the preparation, use and storage instructions. Failure to follow these instructions could result in severe harm. Proper hygiene is important when preparing infant formula.
We recommend cooled, boiled water for preparation and the use of sterilized bottles. Ask your baby's healthcare team if you need to use cooled, boiled water for mixing and if you need to boil (sterilize) bottles, nipples, and rings before use.

- Wash hands thoroughly and clean preparation area.
- To make a standard dilution (20 Cal/fl oz), add 1 unpacked level scoop (4.7 g) of powder to each 1 fl oz of water.
- Cap bottle; shake well. Feed immediately OR refrigerate immediately at 35-40°F (2-4°C) and use within 24 hours. Once feeding begins, use within 1 hour or discard.
Mixing with water warmer than 104°F (40°C) or warming formula above 104°F (40°C) may lessen the benefits of the probiotic cultures.
Amount of water |
Amount of Neocate powder to add |
Approximate final volume |
3 fl oz | 3 scoops or 14.1 g | 3.3 fl oz |
5 fl oz | 5 scoops or 23.5 g | 5.5 fl oz |
8 fl oz | 8 scoops or 37.6 g | 9 fl oz |
Probiotics in powdered formula, including the one in Neocate® Syneo® Infant, can survive and retain their benefits when formula is prepared with water that is lukewarm, at less than 104°F (40°C). The probiotic in prepared Neocate® Syneo® Infant is sensitive to heat, and mixing with water warmer than 104°F (40°C) or warming formula above 104°F (40°C), even for a few seconds, may lessen the benefits of the probiotic cultures.
Do not boil formula and do not use a microwave oven to prepare or warm formula; serious burns may result. Use only under medical supervision. Formula dilution will vary depending on the age, body weight and medical condition of the infant. Neocate® Syneo® Infant is suitable as a sole source of nutrition for infants under one year of age.
Storage
Store can in a cool, dry place (not a refrigerator). Once opened, replace lid on can and use within two weeks. Do not store at extreme temperatures.

- The protein source in the formula is 100% free amino acids.
- There are no intact proteins or even small protein fragments (peptides) that can cause an allergic reaction.
- The hypoallergenicity of Neocate was first established in 1992, according to the guidelines set out by the AAP. Neocate Syneo Infant is also hypoallergenic according to the same guidelines.
The research behind Neocate Syneo Infant suggests that there may be some initial changes in stool characteristics (e.g., color and consistency) during the early transition to this product from a formula without pre- and probiotics. Stools may be softer, more like breastfed infants. In the first days/weeks of use, your baby may also have more gas or flatulence, which may cause some temporary discomfort or fussiness. Talk to your baby's doctor or other healthcare professional about the need to transition gradually onto Neocate Syneo Infant.
When a baby is on Neocate, the first stools tend to be green and can be dark - a lot of parents describe the color as hunter green (but contact your baby's doctor if the stool looks black, which could be blood in the stool). Green is completely normal (Green is Glorious!) and is due to the special composition of Neocate and the way it is digested and absorbed in the body.
For most babies on Neocate, the green color will last for at least the first few days. It may fade after several weeks, but for some little ones stools will be green as long as they're on Neocate. Often stools will change to a yellow/tan/khaki color if the green fades. This is normal, and is a result of the body adjusting to the way Neocate is digested and absorbed. Color can also change when solid foods are introduced into the diet.
The consistency of stools for babies on Neocate tends to be soft and somewhat pasty, though this can vary. For some babies the stools will be looser, and for others more solid or formed. Again, adding solid foods to the diet can affect consistency. Mucus in the stool is not typical so if you see this, you should let the physician know.
Neocate Syneo Infant is a specially formulated medical food and should only be used under medical supervision.
