A group of disorders characterized by having abnormal amounts of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, in one or more specific places anywhere in the digestive system. EGID is subdivided into organ-specific diagnosis: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), high number of eosinophils occurring in the esophagus; Eosinophilic gastritis (EG), high number of eosinophils in the stomach; Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE), high number of eosinophils in the stomach and small intestine; Eosinophilc colitis (EC), high number of eosinophils in the large intestine.
