We want to begin by thanking everyone who participated in our Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) survey this summer. We were lucky to have had 40 people, both moms and dads, participate and provide us with their input!
From our survey we learned that 78 percent of participants know what a GMO is. Additionally, 68 percent of the people read the labels of food products to check for GMO ingredients.
Furthermore, 48 percent of participants are very concerned about the effects GMO ingredients could have on their family. On the other hand, 35 percent were somewhat concerned, and 17 percent were not at all concerned.
Finally, as we’ve mentioned before, we get lots of questions from parents about whether or not Neocate products use GMO ingredients. As always, the answer to that question is no! To be REALLY specific, Neocate ingredients are certified by suppliers to be non-genetically modified through the use of modern biotechnology, compliant with EC regulations 1829/2003 & 1830/2003 (those are European regulations).
But, we were surprised to learn that while 55 percent of participants knew that we have these agreements with the suppliers of ingredients for Neocate products, 45 percent did not.
Since research on the use of GMO ingredients is relatively new and opinions are mixed, we will do our best to keep you informed when there is new information about GM ingredients or the labelling of foods that contain (or do not contain) GM ingredients. But for the time being, rest assured that we will continue to maintain the same agreement with the suppliers of Neocate ingredients!
