Neocate for Allergy Induced Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
Regurgitation (spit-up) is extremely common in infants. In fact, one third of infants who are 4 months of age spit up at least once a day. When other symptoms are associated with the typical spit-up, your doctor may start to consider gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is characterized by regurgitation and/or vomiting associated with poor weight gain, esophagitis, respiratory symptoms, signs and symptoms of distressed behavior and other complications.
Based on studies, it is estimated that up to 42% of infants with GERD also suffer with a cow milk allergy. This is thought to relate to immaturity of the anti-reflux barrier.
Overlapping presentation and symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Desease (GERD) and Cow Milk Allergy (CMA)

Once diagnosed, the goal of GERD therapy is to remove the cause or, otherwise, to resolve symptoms and to prevent the eventual harmful complications. Anyway, it aims at improving the quality of life of young patients.
Where cow milk allergy is the underlying cause of GERD, an elimination diet using Neocate, a hypoallergenic, amino acid-based formula can be used, resulting in the overall dietary management of infant GERD.
